Quick answer
Error 26 on the Bafang DPC-244 / DPC-245 means “Speed signal of the torque sensor has an error.” Most likely cause: a loose speed sensor connector or a damaged sensor. Try this first: turn it off and on again.
Code meanings vary by brand. The same number can mean different things on different displays and controllers. Check your bike's manual to confirm.
About the Bafang DPC-244 / DPC-245
When a fault is detected, the display shows a two-digit error code. source Bafang's manual says: when an error code appears, restart the system first. If the problem isn't solved, contact your dealer. source The display keeps your last ten error codes: open Information > Error Code to see "E-Code00" to "E-Code09". source The same manual covers the DPC-244 and DPC-245. Only the DPC-245 has Bluetooth. Both use Bafang's CAN system. Careful: some numbers mean different things on the Bafang DPC-18. source
In plain English
On torque-sensing systems, part of the pedal sensor also reports speed. This code means that speed signal isn't right. Check the speed sensor connector and look for damage, then leave the sensor itself to a shop.

1 Turn it off and on again Free
Switch the display off, wait 30 seconds, then switch it back on. If the code clears, note what you were doing when it appeared, in case it comes back.
2 Look for damage on the speed sensor Free
Check the speed sensor and its cable for cracks, cuts or a knocked sensor.
3 Check the speed sensor cable Easy
Switch off. Follow the thin cable from the speed sensor to its plug. It often runs near the chain or rear wheel, where it can get cut. Pull the plug apart and push it back together firmly.
4 Unplug and check the main connectors Easy
Switch off and remove the battery. Find the round waterproof plugs along the cables (usually near the handlebar, down the frame and near the motor). Pull each one apart, look for bent pins, water, green corrosion or melted plastic. Melted or burnt plastic means stop and see a shop. Clean green corrosion with electrical contact cleaner and let it dry fully, then push the plug back together with the arrows lined up.

5 Have the sensor replaced Shop job
If the sensor is damaged or still faulty after these checks, a shop can test and replace it.
⚠ When to stop and get a shop
Stop riding and see a shop if you smell burning, see melted plastic or burn marks, or anything gets hot to the touch. Never open the battery or controller, and don't cut or splice the thick motor wires.
Anything inside the battery, the controller, or the thick high-power motor wires is a job for a qualified e-bike shop.
